When Grandad was in hospital he wrote letters to Gran, and also to each of his children.  Dad gave me his copy before he died.  It is very sad as Grandad either thought he was coming out of hospital, or he was trying to be positive for the sake of his family.  Dad was only thirteen when his dad died in 1955, and he then became the man of the house.
